How To Do Hanging Leg Lifts for Your ABS

Trying to get that "low v" in your abs? Well, one of the exercises that focuses on tightening and toning the lower abs are to do hanging leg lifts or lying leg lifts to build strength and tone up your core.

There are different variations you can do of leg lifts (as shown in the video) whether you are a beginner or more advanced. For starting out, you can perform leg lifts by lying on the ground or a bench or placing your hands above head and holding on to something while slowly lifting and lowering your legs up off the ground. For more advanced, you can grab a pull-up bar to hang from and withotu' swinging slowly lift and lower your legs in a controlled movement. 

A few tips:

  • When performing these on the ground or a bench make sure to not let your feet touch the ground when you lower back down
  • Make sure when on the ground or the bench that you are lifting with your core/abs and not arching your back. As soon as you lift your feet off the ground, first make sure to push your low back into the ground so you do not strain your back.
  • When performing hanging leg lifts, make sure that you engage your lat (back) muscles to stay still and that you are performing slow and controlled movements so that you are not using momentum or swinging back and forth to get your legs up. Engage your core and slowly lift your legs and lower back down.
